Hi,

I have a Pentium IV 2.8 HT system with Intel D865GBF Motherboard and 256 RAM at 400 FSB.

I am using the Intel Active Monitor which was bundled with the board. The system temperature at low loads and idle is 51C for CPU, 39C for System zone 1, and about 41C for system zone 2.

By default System zone 2 temperature threshold temp. is set at 50C which my system is oftem exceeding even at normal loads. Apart from the bundled heat sink and fan, I also have an additional exhaust fan at the back.

I am in India and the ambient temp. is about 32C.

Please advice.

this is fine, if your system gets below the 65-75 mark then your going to have some real problems.

See if you can get a hold of the stock 3.2C or 3.4C Intel copper bottom heatsink. Much better than the aluminum block you are using.

Those are normal tempratures for a room at 32c.

You should get an air conditioned room if you want better temps.

Thanks guys for your advice. Intend to add another 256MB of RAM soon or maybe a single stick of 512KB in replacement of the one I have.

I would also like to have a graphics card installed soon. Any suggestions in the $100-120 range ?

Also what do you think is the temperature at which I should start getting concerned for my PC ?

About temps over 60c you can start to worry altough anything under 70 is usually fine. And silicon will melt somewhere around 105 or something like that hehe.

Here's a very interesting article, testing P4 thermal throttling
