Here's something I've never seen before after hundreds of fresh installs... I can either make the volume icon, or the network one appear. Not both at the same time, as checking one in settings will make the other disappear. I've tried many fixes found through google, to no avail. The space is there, just no icon. Everything's running smooth otherwise, but OCD is kicking in lol.

Did it ever happen to you? Were you able to fix it? I've ran sfc /scannow in powershell, but everything's fine. I won't go through another fresh install just to fix that, but would still like to fix it.

Also, what are you guys using to make a custom image, now that recimg is gone? I was thinking making it with Acronis True Image. Any recommendation? The goal is to install that image with everything set up, instead of reinstalling/reconfiguring apps one by one.

Thanks,
Max

To change how icons and notifications appear in the notification area

1. Press and hold or right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then tap or click Properties.

2. Next to Notification area, tap or click Customize.

3. For each icon, select an options, and then tap or click OK:

• Show icon and notifications. The icon is always in the notification area of the taskbar, and notifications appear.

• Hide icon and notifications. The icon is hidden, and you won't see notifications for that app.

• Only show notifications. The icon is hidden, but notifications will appear.

Hi, I was having trouble with my tray icons showing up a while back. I had to make a registry change, something about a delay...and that only half way fixed it. I have that info wrote down somewhere and can get it if needed but I don't think it will help. What finally helped was a Windows Update.

Try to unplug the network cable then plug it back in and see if the tray icon shows up.

I found an easy way to test the icons is the use Task Manager and restart Windows Explorer. At least this should be an easy way to test all MS icons as they should properly re-add themselves once they are removed, not all programs do that.

You could try to reset the tray icon area.

Note this is also do-able with CCleaner if you have it installed. Look under the Windows / Advanced section and you'll see "Tray Notifications Cache".

I have no backup recommendations. If this doesn't help with the icons reply back with info on what you have tried and we can search more for an answer.

CLEARING THE TRAY ICON HISTORY

> Click on “Start Menu” and type ‘run’ in the Start search bar.

>When the Run search bar opens, type in ‘regedit.exe’ and click “Ok”. When the “User Account Control” box opens then click “Yes”

> Go to and ‘left click’ on each white arrow just to the left of each little manila folder named as follows: (you may have to scroll down to find a couple of these)
‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER’
‘Software’
‘Classes’
‘Local Settings’
‘Software’
‘Microsoft’
‘Windows’
‘CurrentVersion’
(Just left-click this one on the folder itself) ‘TrayNotify’ (find & locate ‘IconStreams’ & ‘PastIconsStream’

> Press and hold down your left keyboard ‘Ctrl’ key. While holding down the ‘Ctrl’ key use your mouse to left-click, one time each, on ‘IconStreams’ & ‘PastIconsStream’. Now, right-click and select ‘Delete’ regarding the highlighted items.

>This will open a “Confirm Value Delete” dialogue box. It will say, “Deleting certain values could cause system instability. Are you sure you want to permanently delete these values?” (<Do not worry>, you will be fixing this in the next step) Now click ‘Yes’

> Start your “Task Manager” by pressing ‘Ctrl’+’Shift’+’Esc’ and select the “Processes” tab and find ‘explorer.exe’

>Right click on ‘explorer.exe’ and select” End Process”

> A “Windows Task Manager” box will open and ask, “Do you want to end ‘explorer.exe’?”, “If an open program is associated with this process, it will close and you will lose any unsaved data. If you end a system process, it might result in an unstable system. Are you sure you want to continue?” (<Do not worry> you will be fixing this in the next step) Now click ‘Yes’

> Now select the ‘Applications’ tab in “Task Manager”, in the bottom right hand corner, select ‘New task...’ and type ‘explorer.exe’ then click “Ok”

> Explorer will now reboot and your icons should return. *Note: You may need to reset your preferences for each icon by going back to your “Notification Area Properties” because it will reset most of them to the default status”

Sadly, I've tried all of these fix. I'm redownloading the ISO and will, finally, fresh install again. Thanks for your help guys :) . The part about the custom image still is relevant tho.
