I currently have
FX 6300
GTX 660 TI 2gb
16gb ram
windows 7
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ motherboard.

My question is should I upgrade my cpu to a FX 8350 or should I get a new graphics card. Was looking at the GTX 970's. I do a lot of gaming but also a lot of video editing. Which upgrade would be more of a benefit? I am not interested in switching to Intel.

Solution
Get the RX 480 coming at the end of the month for $200 and wait for Zen to get a new platform if Intel is not your cup of tea. Beside not beeing a good investment sinking money in that dead platform, an 8350 on that motherboard is a risky proposition as it may not be able to feed it the power it needs under heavy load and it may throttle. Regardless of the fact that that CPU is on the support list, the forums are full of people trying to run that CPU on such lower end boards and having trouble. I wouldn't put a CPU with over 100W TDP in tat board.

A better GPU will bring the most benefit.
Interested in swithcing to intel, you may not be, but unless Zen delivers, you will have to.

I would seriously wait... Both options are not viable to me, the CPU is not going to make a huge difference, the GPU would probably be not a good choice either.

It's probably not "bottlenecked" but with badly threaded games, it will.

The thing is, there is an option to wait for Zen and Polaris/Pascal.

If you are video editing, a GPU upgrade would help. Like, srsly. More CUDA cores = faster renders. You have enough RAM, and if the 6-core wasn't slow before, it shouldn't become slow overnight. The GPU is a little old IMO.
