Heya

I'm planning on upgrading my system and my objective would be to have something powerful, cool, quiet and not expensive lol.

My current system:
AMD Opteron @2.6Ghz X2core (939)
Zalman CPU Cooler
Asus Deluxe mobo
4GB OCZ DDR
ATI Radeon 4850 512MB
Creative X-Fi Platimum(something like that)
Regular DVD(+-) Drive
Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Antec P180
Dell 24" @ 1900x1200

On air the cpu overclocks to 2.8-2.9 but it's too much noise.
The Antec P180 kinda sucks for cable management and it needs new fans so might as well get a new case.

My tentative upgrade (from newegg):

MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3

XIGMATEK Dark Knight

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit

COOLER MASTER HAF 932

Also some Artic Silver 5

Yeah the case is huge but so is the P180 and it has a lot a air flow all while being quiet.
I thought about the PII X3 but if I get it I'm going to be thinking...I should have gotten the quad.

The main things I do are:
WoW
Adobe CS4 suite
General Multitasking
Light dipping into Maya 3D

(an i7 starts to get away from my current budget $600)

I can reduce the price by getting the other AM3 msi mobo:

...but I don't need an onboard vid card and in respects to CrossFire meh I never got around to doing SLI with my current mobo so I doubt I will with this one.
Just picked the more expensive version cause it's probably better quality and has more features for overclocking (I assume).

Thanks

[Edit] Oh one last thing I was planning on not using the X-fi anymore...dunno don't see the point or is it still viable nowadays? Hopefully this setup will work with Windows 7 RC1

I like that alternate RAM!
But would that be overkill for my setup?
Or maybe it will allow it to overclock better?

Those combo deals seem to have cheap mobos...
Biostar???
The gygabyte one only supports DDR2
Good deals but it's like their trying to get rid of them :p

Rapidisimo,

The setup you are planning will indeed work well with Windows 7RC. For more information about what Windows 7RC not only requires but also offers to all users -- including direct download -- I encourage you to head on over to Microsoft Springboard.
