Thinking about upgrading my gaming machine. I've current got:

CPU: i5 4690k
MOBO: Some Asus
GPU: 980ti
RAM 8GB DDR3 2000 something

What I want:
CPU i5 9600k or i5 8700k
MOBO : Asus
: Gigabyte
RAM : 16GB DDR4 2333MHZ

I'm not bothered about the best best performance I just want a good machine that will astleast another 4-5 years like my little haswell has.
I play at 2k at the moment, but I think my cpu is bottle-necking my gpu abit.

Would the new cpu's and mobos be okay? Or anything better in a similar price range

Your Gigabyte link sends me to a search list with random parts. You should look at a dual channel DDR4-3200MHz ram kit. With today's lineup, look at a Z390 chipset board. Where are you located and what is your intended budget for the parts to upgrade? If you don't have an SSD yet, now is a good time to invest in one.

Lastly, please list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
