System using 30% memory at idle

I have noticed in task manager that my system is always using about 30% memory at idle. Is this normal? I've also noticed that there are many "Google Chrome (32 bit)" processes running at the same time, each taking up a fair amount of memory. Any way I can lower my memory usage? Help!

I was being flippant.. you said "there are many "Google Chrome (32 bit)" processes running " so it was an obvious comment.
But really - it should not be complicated..
Look at all the processes.. and see whats using the memory.. if you need them all - live with it
if you don't.. get rid of them..
Usually it might be because you have loads of stuff starting up with windows you don't really need/want.. e.g. do you really need Steam to startup with windows?
And you don't say how much mem you have? if you only have 2GB.. 30% at idle may not be too unreasonable.
If you have 32GB.... 30% would be a LOT.

Chrome has a lot of processes running when open, it's just how it works (for me at least). They take up more resources the more you have open. Firefox also uses a fair bit of resources (although it shrinks it down to one massive process vs. chrome's man smaller process). If your computer runs fine then I don't think there's a problem, im apparently using about 40% of my 8 gb resources with 10 chrome tabs, task manager, and a few other processes, on the balanced power setting; my laptop runs fine

I'll try and slim down what runs on startup. And I've got 8 GB of RAM.

It's also the stuff you run in general while the system is running. Sometimes windows likes to have a lot of things openand sometimes I have some programs that don't quite close properly (one program that i thought had closed was using a relatively huge amount of resources) so i have to make sure they close.

While 30% isnt necessarily ideal, I have the same amount of memory you do, and am using nearly half of it right now, but my computer notices no performance impact. Unless it's negatively impacting what you are doing (lagging, excessive heat, unstable programs) I don't think it will be so much of a problem. Although it's up to you, having more space available generally doesnt hurt
