Hi guys, I just upgraded to 16gb of ddr3 ram. Given the amount of ram, I thought I could decrease the amount of pagefile. So I set my pagefile to 400mb(min)-400mb(max) for each of my 2 SSD drives. Total pagefile should now be 800mb.

However after restarting, I still not that my system uses more than 800mb of pagefile. As i am typing, HWinfo64 states i am using 4gb of virtual memory, with 13gb available. Physical memory is at 3.5gb usage, 12.8gb available.

When I was playing gtav, ram usage was at 5gb in the benchmark, virtual memory at 4gb usage.

I am running windows 7 home premium. Why cant I dictate the amount of pagefile to be used?

Pagefile.sys is "the real virtual memory", and you did dictate how large or small you wanted it to be. I believe different softwares just name things differently. Virtual memory is only used when you run out of physical memory. When this happens the system "pages" to disk. Pagefile.sys is the file that is uses and is a contiguous space on the hard drive that is reserved and cannot get fragmented. With your 16 gigs of ram, I doubt you even need one. However crash dumps need it so keep it where it is at and you'll be fine.

Hi thanks for your reply. I did what u said, My computer says both of my pagefiles are 400mb each. I fired up gtav and its now running in the background. Pagefile is still at 400mb each according to my computer.

However hwinfo now says it is using 10gb of pagefile lol. ram usage is at 6gb which is more believable.

Also perfmon.exe states my pagefile usage is at 0% regardless of load.

I dont know which to believe now..
