I recently built a computer for my friend, which posted on the first try! 3 months down the road, he reported to me it randomy stopped working. I didn't believe him at first, but when I went to test it myself, it was true. The pc no longer posted at all, but the fans still spun which gave the impression.
My first thought was the power supply which might have died out, but that wasen't the case. I tested it with a multimeter, and even swapped my corsair psu that works fine. It still didn't work at all.
Next, we tried the motherboard. My other friend let me borrow his MSI B150 M3 which we know works fine, but still nothing. The lights and fans spun on everything, including the GPU which I also tested in my PC and worked.
The ram was also tested, we swapped that and still nothing! (This includes all the possible configurations in the slots.
I tried CMOS resetting, cpu reapplying, different hdmi outputs, everything I know of. The system does not post at all, with my monitor showing no signal. I believe it is the CPU that died, as that is the only part that we haven't tested.
What I don't get is why it would be the CPU of all things. I took the heat sink off just to see if it got warm at all during an attempt to post. It did. I have never had a cpu die out on me before
So to sum it up, I swapped everything but a CPU with no success. The is no beeps unless i remove all the ram from the system. Is it the CPU that died?
