So I recently bought an MSI 1440p 144hz 1ms response time monitor to hook up to my laptop & just use the monitor as a "PC". (I am building a pc atm will post specs below so people can make sure I won't run into any issues)

I cannot get 144hz when I go into settings or display settings or graphics settings - I only get 60hz, can anyone think of any reason why I can't achieve 144hz?

The laptop im using right now is a HP, 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, intel i5 with a intel graphics card.

The PC I am going to build is:
Ryzen 1800x
RTX 2060
16gb ddr4 ram
2TB SSD

It is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
And you may be right about the cable; I bought a DP to HDMI cable and it didn't even register that it was plugged in - I think I need a HDMI to DP cable; do you know where I can find one of those?

My laptop has a HDMI port and my monitor as a DP port.

When your using HDMI, what speeds show up for you to select? Unfortunately Intel says the max resolution/refresh rate the Intel HD 530 supports but not the lowest or in between.

I could be wrong but I think for most HDMI cables (1.4) it's 1440P/85hz, maybe 100hz? Pretty sure your system & monitor would need to support HDMI 2.0 for 1440P/144hz.
