I've dl'd the setup file from the thief-universe mirror, but when I try to
open up the file I get an error message stating: "The setup files are
corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."

Just to follow up. When I move my cursor over the setup icon it only shows
a file size of 109MB. So apparently the DL got cut off in the middle. I am
now trying to dl it again.

I was getting 450KBs while it was downloading. I figure that was mostly
because I'm fairly close (DFW) to Cheap Missions (Houston) from where it
was mainly being seeded. My upload speed is only about 30KBs though.

Mine is very slow at about 7 KBs. Guess I was too late, it will take about
24 hrs. if it stays like this.

Try using a program that allows d/l resume. Or use the torrent. I'll seed it
for atleast 1 week.

To get it working (other than showing a small logo) I had to:

1. De-install Darkloader and Thief 2 (which took away my no-CD crack).
2. Re-install Thief 2 from the 2 original CDs.
3. Install the version 1.18 patch from
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/media/patches/
4. Install Thief 2X from http://www.thief2x.com/default2.asp
5. Reboot (otherwise the intro movie would not play from the main menu).
6. Er, play!

I was in on the final betatesting and I didn't have to do any of that stuff
to get it to run. Just install it into my T2 folder, let it install the
desktop shortcut then click on the shortcut and *presto* it worked! Very
simple and straight forward. There should absolutely be no need to uninstall
Darkloader or T2. I also still have my no-CD crack installed and it works
fine that way.

It may have been Thief 2's "safe_texture_manager" bug which bit me
immediately, without loading the game - perhaps.

I applied the "safe_texture_manager" patch to get Thief 2 working reliably
with my ATI Radeon X800 video card and the latest video drivers:

I'm in Finland (not close to Jason's site😉 ), but I got it down averaging
near 700 kB/s. Now I'm seeding it on my laptop, currently showing 80
downloaders, upstream close to 70 kB/s.

I'm into the second mission, and I can tell you it was worth waiting for.
It is stunning, simply awesome. It's got such an attention to detail, so
many nice little surprises and changes, and a promise of a great story
which, I have no doubt, will culminate in increasingly interesting and
amazing missions. Even now, I'm completely sold. This if a new Thief game.
A fabulous, fantastic new Thief game. I'm in awe -- completely.

I got to play through this during the last week (for the final betatesting,
lucky me!) and it just keeps getting better and better. It's everything I
wished T3 had been and I would have gladly payed to play this. I'm going
through on Expert now (did Normal the first time) and I plan to spend lots
of time exploring every nook and cranny.

Still dl'ing here apparently for another 3 hours, but it's getting better
all the time at now an average of 40 KiB/s.
Isn't torrent supposed to be faster or is it just more reliable for larger
files? (I never got into that what it is and does really).
Glad you're enjoying it and it was worth the wait.

Starting on Expert and one problem is there seems to be KOTP saved
games in the T2X loading screen, anyway, I am not impressed yet.
No weapons and running from three thugs is no way to start a game. I
run to shadows and my visibility bar doesn't decrease. Is this suppose
to happen at the beginning?
Also following Kandar for so long takes away from the enjoyment of the
game.

You didn't uninstall any other FMs first? That seemed like an obvious
first step since T2K doesn't load with Darkloader.

Also, Garrett is now, like omigosh, a female teenager! That's some
massive plastic surgery.

Did you remember to install the original T2 game through Darkloader before
installing T2X? If not, it's possible that would cause the problem with the
saves. You should have started with all blank save slots.

As for the game, give it time! You've barely started and it's just setting
up the storyline in this mission. The visibility gem doesn't work in the
first mission because Zaya is just an ordinary person at this point with no
special skills. That will change shortly. Keep going as the best is yet to
come.

Thanks for answering the question I hadn't got around to asking yet.

Now to fix that problem with the in-game vids not playing..sheesh..

Nope, I was not aware we had to uninstall FM's. I just ran the setup
and it did everything. I am not even going through Darkloader.
