During this game I've killed mites and shot stones enough to keep the
Hammers and the Pagans on side, but I haven't shot the cocoons. Is
there any profit in it?

Not particularly. The cocoons are basically just reusable cornerstones.
In fact, from the first point you read the message, you can put a dozen
or so moss arrows in the cocoon, and make the Pagans absolutely adore you.

There's a suggestion in the loading tips that priests of both sides can
help their allies with spells. Well, I'm allied, but I've not run
across anything like that.

The priests on both sides do sometimes cast beneficial spells. I only
saw it once in the entire game though, and that was when all hell had
broken loose. I think you'd have to be extremely lucky to intercept one
yourself, though I have heard some reports to the contrary.

I saw it happen in the Pagan Underground but to intercept it I'd have had to
break cover. It's also very fast so you need to be in the right place pretty
sharpish.
