I have just brought a Thrustmaster T500rs off ebay for a upgrade to my previous G27 wheel which has been amazing the past few years. I just fancied a upgrade. Anyway I got it today set it all up etc, installed all the drivers and made sure that Windows was detecting the wheel and shifter properly which it was because under games controllers it was showing as T500rs racing wheel plus I was able to access the properties tab and get thrustmasters calibration tab open, allowing the buttons on the wheel were recognised along with the rotation of the wheel and all 3 pedals. Now this is the annoying part but I can't actually use my wheel. No matter what game I go on the game won't detect it. I have tried Ets2, Ats, project cars and F1 2016 . I really don't know where the problem lies because all the drivers are installed correctly and the firmware is up to date? Does anyone know what the problem could be, is there something I am missing? Just to add aswell but I have tried to reboot the wheel and tried different usb slots but still no luck...... please help me! Cheers, Stephen

To be completely honest, I'm not sure a Thrustmaster wheel is in fact an upgrade from the G27; then again, I don't really know much about Thrustmaster's more recent offerings.

Are you sure the wheel itself has the latest firmware? According to Thrustmaster's site, the latest firmware version is 43; this can be checked on the T500rs's control panel, in the upper right corner.

Yes the wheel has the latest firmware installed. 5 mins ago i actually just got off the phone to thrustmaster and iv'e got to say the customer service was great. the guy was really helpful and knew his stuff. the problem was narrowed down to a local issue. he said the cause was likely to be a problem with other drivers interfereing with the wheel. i have the latest version of windows so now i have to find out which other programme is causing the problem. last night i got rid of geforce experience because i seen a forum about that causing problems. any ideas what programme it would be? i really don't want to reinstall windows or anything

He said driver, not program, right? Drivers are more baseline than programs.

I'm looking around for known issues with the games you mentioned.

Regarding ETS2: I just found a forum thread talking about using the wheel with ETS2; one post mentions using the input wizard when you first install the wheel.

Regarding ATS: I found...nothing. Sorry. I'd assume that the info about ETS2 would be applicable to ATS though, since they're practically the same game.

Regarding Project Cars: According to the game's official site, the T500RS is fully compatible.

Regarding F1 2016: Surprisingly, the T500RS specifically is not listed on the compatibility list. However, there are a total of four T500 models listed, which says to me that the T500RS should also be fully compatible.

Based on that research, yeah, it's probably another driver or a rogue file interfering with the thing. Or...wait. I just had an idea. Turn off Windows Update (temporarily!), uninstall the T500RS' drivers, and reinstall them from scratch; Windows Update may have forcibly replaced some of the driver bits with the wrong ones without notifying you.

Thank you for all your replies, well I got the wheel working for a day. I just ended up resetting windows and starting a fresh to see if that worked and it did work on the games I want to use the wheel for, ETS2, project cars etc and I've got to say it's an amazing wheel. The sad part is though I've turned on my pc today and I've got the same problem :( I'm running the latest update of windows 10. It's so strange how it was working last night but not anymore. Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like Windows might be "updating" the driver to the "proper version" which in fact is a generic driver and doesn't actually work with the wheel. The only solution, unfortunately, is to delete the drivers, shut off Windows Update, and then reinstall the latest driver manually from Thrustmaster's site.
