Hi everyone,

I recently purchased Dell precision T5610 with the following specs:

Motherboard: 0WN7Y6
CPU: Two Intel Xeon E5-2630 v2 @ 2.6GHz (3.1 GHz turbo boost) processors
GPU: Nvidia quadro 2000 (1GB DDR5)
RAM: 48 GB (DDR3) 4x8GB + 4*4GB @ 1333 MHz
PSU: 685 W

I wanted to upgrade my workstation since I use it primarily for CAD modeling/pointcloud processing. I use software like Geomagic Design X, Solidworks and Revit.
I wanted to check with you guys on my options to radically improve performance on my workstation.

From what I have read thus far on many forums (here included), I wanted to update my CPU and GPU with:

CPU – the best one (I think) that I could find that matched my T5610 is Intel Xeon E5-2687W v2 @ 3.4 GHz (tubro boost to 4.0 GHz). Is there any faster CPU than this one that I could use for modeling (as this is my primary use of the workstation ie. time spent at computer)? I hardly ever do any rendering, so I am not going that route.

GPU – I found locally two options to go with either quadro M5000 (Maxwell architecture – higher number of CUDA cores) or quadro P4000 (newer Paskal architecture). What is your opinion on these two cards, and if they are compatible with my build?

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks for any input and all the best!
