Not sure if this is the right place, but here goes...

I play clash pretty solidly on my Nexus 5, but to get to the next level I really need more screen real estate. Money is pretty tight for something as frivolous as this - really I'd like to spend about $50, but absolutely no more than $100. I don't mind a used device if I can play with it first, and refurbished doesn't scare me. Cheap Chinese crap does though.

Basically, I need something that isn't going to overheat playing games for a few hours. Tiny storage is fine - basically the only thing it needs to have is Clash of Clans, and Skitch (image annotating app). Don't care about the camera. Don't need 3G/4G/LTE etc. Battery life isn't a big deal as long as it doesn't overheat while plugged in and playing. I would like Android 4.2 or newer - in my limited understanding, this means I can have multiple profiles, so I can manage multiple Clash of Clans accounts.

Any ideas? Good sources for refurbished tablets?

Check out "Nexus 7 2012" on eBay. Type in the exact words as I did (in the quotations) and you'll pick up some good deals. From what I can see right now, A4C has a Nexus 7 16GB (4.1, but Nexus 7's can be upgraded to 5.1.1 (current)). It's going for $54.95, but that's the last one. Don't get anything below a 16GB, as apparently using too much storage space drastically slows the Nexus 7's down (I have 16GB, serves me well). For $5 you can buy a 32GB from the same supplier (result is directly below it). Both are 'Buy it now'

Don't be put off by anything you've heard about the Nexus 7 2012's. With great care you can make them fast and reliable. If you do end up buying one, message me and I'll provide some insight on how to speed it up (if needed). 5.1.1 is recommended as Google released bug fixes and performance enhancements. My Nexus 7 happily runs Clash of Clans no problems, smooth, and the N7 is also made by ASUS. The device doesn't overheat as much as cheaper tablets (source: I own an N7 and did own a cheaper tablet). Battery life is also brilliant.

A bonus feature is that Nexus 7's are easily root-able so if you need any sort of helper mod for Clash of Clans (like XMOD), get Wugfresh's Nexus Toolkit and root it that way (you need a computer, and that's providing you also buy a Nexus 7)

Interesting to hear about the storage situation. If thats the case, then the 2012 should serve me well as I probably won't load much of anything on it. In talking on other forums I had narrowed it down to the Nexus 7. Many people are saying get the 2013, but saving myself $50+ sounds great. Do you run multiple accounts? I had one guy say he had troubles getting the 2012 to switch properly. Although that is probably fixed with rooting....

I run a rooted Nexus 7 2012 Android 5.1.1, and I had accidentally switched to the guest account while trying to figure out how to delete it. My first user-switching was a bit slow but when I read around on how to delete the guest account, I tried to switch to the guest again to delete it and it loaded much quicker.. was probably ready in about <=10 seconds, so I'd say that user switching works fine on it. I've never really run multiple accounts on any of my devices but the guest situation was the only time I'd ever switched accounts. The slowness of when I switched the first time was probably due to the system setting itself up and application management etc.
But the whole experience overall is pretty smooth, clash of clans takes about 15 seconds or less to load, bearing in mind this is with a pattern-lock included and starting CoC from fresh.

Lol, I tried bluestacks on my little Windows 8 Tablet PC (convertible) and the performance was so bad, I just uninstalled it and dealt with my Nexus 7.. this was before I optimized my Nexus. It's worth it in the long run though.
