Hello,

I'm wondering if I can take the RAM out of my old dell laptop (inspiron 7000 series) and insert it into a new laptop? (I haven't decided on a new laptop yet). I was thinking of buying a laptop that only has 8GB of RAM and then I can just include the 8GB of RAM from my dell laptop and use it. However, I know that RAM sticks do need to be compatible with each other. So I was wondering if this could be a possibility.

Thanks!

Research hard on the model(s) you are looking at.

It is very common for 13" models now to have soldered components and fixed RAM, IE you can't add more. This is becoming more and more commonplace with new machines. In my recent search I pretty much had to move up to a 15" model just such that I could actually buy a model with the processor I wanted and still be able to insert an m.2, an SSD, and add the RAM I wanted. I saved myself over $400 doing so as opposed to the exact same model outfitted that way including parts purchase to do so.
