...FreeAgent GoFlex 2tb, usb 3.0: I'm more than happy with it, what with its speed and reliability. It sometimes insists on not initiating upon boot, but that's for another thread.

Just curious, would one benefit from taking out the actual disk inside the casing and install it as an internal hdd? How would the speeds compare?

Has anyone performed this operation yet?

Installing it internally would likely not be possible as every factory-made external drive I've dismantled in the last couple of years there's a big problem with the drive interface - - it's a proprietary one that's not SATA and it's not IDE either, it's some type of connection designed to stop you using the drive as an internal one (stops you fitting a new drive inside the enclosure too).

As for your boot issue, unplug the external drive after you've shut down. Don't plug it in until the boot process has completed & Windows comes up. Laptops don't mind booting with an external hard drive connected, but many desktop PCs won't tolerate it, it either won't POST at all or it causes a long delay at the splash screen before the boot process continues.
