taking pics in a night club?

hi peeps

I've just bought a Dimage A1, very very impressed with it so far and thats
from someone who knows nothing about photography...idiot proof ....anyway
i'm playing at a night club this saturday so will be taking the camera
along, has anyone got any tips?.
I've not taken shots in that environment yet.....dark with some bright
lights and lots of movement.....i'll obviously play with all the modes and
see what happens on the night but some pointers before hand would be very
usefull.

There have been discussions on this NG and and rec.photo.digital on taking
photos at rock concerts. Look in the archives at google.com.

Dear Tia <G>.....sorry, I had that in a reply once.

It's tough. Low light and movement don't mix. If you can't use flash
then you have a tough time.

You need high ISO setting, but that means noise. Most cameras are very
noisy above 400.

Depends on what you want to shoot. If it's the stage then the proplem
is that most of the lights are probably pointing straight at you. If
it's people then there will simply be a lot of blurring. Flash can
often be unpopular. Mid you at t anight club, everybody might just
think it's part of the show! <G>

Do not try the modes. Most of them are probably not going to tell you
what they are doing WRT shutter speed, aperture etc. The dmiage may be
different. Obviously you need to have the widest aperture, to allow
and the fastest shutter speed you can get.

I also suggest you do not zoom in. This allows the widest aperture,
quicker shots, and you can crop a bit later. Depends on the required
print size as to how far you can crop.
