How does one go about talking to the daedric shrines?

I have read several posts about 'activating the shrive' or 'talking to the
shrine'.
Can someone explain this a little, because I'm at a loss. I have tried
talking to the shrines I've encountered in the same way you would talk to a
person, but no luck....

Thanks lots for you help.

Not all of them--or even most of them--will talk to you. If you approach
the statue closely (with their size, you'll be staring at their shin bone),
it will either give you a message box that identifies the statue, or not.
If it does, you can press the spacebar to communicate just like you would a
person. I haven't played the game all the way through, or visited all the
daedric ruins on the map yet, but I've been to quite a few. I've found just
three so far that have quests. Four if you count Azura.

Cheers,
Walt

Only some of the shrines will talk to you / can be activated. Others
are just there, like any other part of the landscape. The shrines
that can be activated send you on a quest for the daedric lord
embodied by the shrine. You can tell which shrines can be activated
because they will have a text box open when the cursor gets near and
will speak to you out loud. One activatable shrine is Azura's. It is
at the SE corner of the island (Azura's Coast), and is visible on the
paper map that came with the game. Another is at the extreme NW in
the daedric ruins NW of Gnisis (the ruins are on the paper map, too).

Try the Underworks in the various Vivec cantons. There's at least one
talkative shrine I know of down there. 'Ware denizens.
