taming creatures

for all you creature handlers, help me with this one.
I am a level 23 and tried to tame a level 18 pet but it said i
couldn't(mottled wrix baby)
why not?

Did you have another pet out at the time?

Do you have the skill that lets you tame aggressive creatures yet?
The level isn't the only restriction as to what you can tame.

to answer big, no i didnt have another pet out. to kitty, thats why i asked
the question. i believe i has enough skill to tame the creature but it said
i couldn't. thats why i asked why.

Look at your skills page, 3 boxes down on the left you will find my skill
mods.
Look in this box, scroll down to taming vicious creatures.
What is the number here?
Also what level CH are you?

OK, I just wanted to make sure you knew that taming aggressives wasn't
tied only to their creature levels. Otherwise I'm not sure; I don't
know of a consistent or specific bag that causes something like this,
though I've seen both bugs that won't let someone tame or pull as many
levels as he should be able to and bugs that have let them have or
tame more, in neither case consistently.

Go to your skill sheet (control +s). You want to look for your skills
related to taiming Vicious Creatures...since that is what a Mottled
Wrix is. I am betting that your Taiming Vicious Creatures skills are
less then the level 18 you need.

Did it automatically say "you can't tame that"? Or did you just fail after
repeated attempts? Sometimes the force isn't with us when we try to tame
critters. How about armor? I have a feeling that removing armor improves
your chances of taming.

from all the responses, i am getting the understanding that i need vicious
creature mods equal to the level of vicious creature. is that a correct
statement. ( mottled wrix +18 thats what i need)
as for my skill level i am +27 for max level of pets +10 for vicious
creatures cant remember stored pets.

well its that you have to have taming vicious creatures not that it has to
be the same lvl as the creature, unless they changed it recently (I was CH
about a month ago). not all creatures that are the same "race" are the same
or the same lvl, e.g.. a corellian butterfly drone and a corellian butterfly
worker and vicious corellian butterfly worker(no such thing) are different
lvls. make sure you don't have a pet or a droid out while you try to tame,
droids are pets, make sure your not in combat or "aggro'd". if you still
can't tame it its probably a rare higher lvl version of that species. And
make sure your adding your taming lvls right, novice ch can tame lvl12 then
add the numbers from your other skill boxes in, its a common mistake to
think that it's +12 at novice = 22. other than that I have no idea what can
be preventing you from taming it.

Well, then maybe it's higher level than assumed. Or maybe......there is a
phantom menace of clone devs that are conspiring to break our great republic
apart! Or do I have that wrong, maybe it's a Sith Dev and his/her
apprentice! We must be ever vigilant against the enemies of freedom! We
should immediately head to Coruscant and request a special hearing for this
outrage! Maybe they will then appoint a Special House committee and an
independent Special Investigator!
