Is anyone currently using one of these older burners who can tell me what media successfully passes the OPC test? I am using newwe 52X and it is failing.

I used the Maxwell CD-RMusic 80/700. You may want to try this one. But I have taken mine to the shop and they advised me the CD burner has burned out and they can't get the parts to replace the old one GOOD LUCK,

I can confirm, Maxell discs seem to work on a wider range of recorders (Sony, Philips in my case) than, say Verbatim which Philips models reject.

Getting fussy about media is often a sign that the laser is on the way out -- I've revived a couple of decks by cleaning the laser lens (one had been used by heavy smoker).

Curiously, CD recorders seem pretty unreliable compared to computer CD-R and DVD-R drives which cost far less (and are easy to replace when they fail).

Musicians I know have switched to using computers or solid state recorders.

Just checked and see that I've been using JVC branded audio cd-r successfully as well in Sony and Philips recorders.

in the older models you need to use cd that are slower 4x and 650mb 74min
