Hello, I have recently come upon a problem with my windows 10 where i am not able to use some things on my take bar suck as the start menu, the search icon, my internet connection or volume mixer. If anyone has any input on how i can fix this please leave something in the answers everything helps. thanks :)

Solution
I had a glitch and restore an earlier Restore Point.

Worst case scenario you can:

1) create W10 install media (media creation tool from MS, burn to thumb drive)

2) start "setup.exe" for install media from within Windows

3) Choose to KEEP existing programs and data, then finish install (it replaces the main OS files thus fixes corrupt data).

You should also test your memory www.memtest86.com

It's actually:

Start-> Settings-> Update and Security -> Recovery-> "Reset this PC"

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqBzoEHGzsM

It's basically identical to what I recommended, except that it's using files already on the drive. So my concern would be what happens if any of those are corrupted?

Also, some people have reported they where prompted for their Windows 10 installation disc so keep that in mind (original or one created from the MS site via the media creation tool as I first suggested).

It's faster if you don't need the disc, so perhaps worth trying first but again I'd make an install disc if you don't have one first anyway so... i guess it's about the same either way unless you want to just pull the trigger and try without a disc/USB.

*Write down any PROGRAMS is says will be removed so you can reinstall them. I may be wrong, but I didn't think I had to reinstall any of mine and I have a lot.

Good.

I suggest you create a RESTORE POINT now.

I have three methods of backup:

1) Restore Points
(Windows does some automatically, but if I mess around with certain things I'll make one first, or if I fix an issue)

2) Backup Image
(i.e. Acronis True Image. There are free versions that are manual only for WD drives or the same thing called DiscWizard for Seagate. I use the paid version which does WEEKLY backups using incremental... anyway, it can get you back to the EXACT state you where in though you'd want the C-drive image on a physically separate drive)

3) Syncback Free
(I do a backup of my Documents folder using this tool and have it set to scan EVERY SINGLE DAY. It makes an identical copy on a different drive, and then only adds or deletes as needed depending on what changed).

yes my answer was identical, except that you dont have to create install media.the method within windows 10 also keeps files and fixes corrupt data.no difference at all.i ran across this exact same problem.
