Task Manager shows the wrong RAM speed...

Hello! I have a Lenovo Y700 gaming laptop with 8GB of DDR3 RAM. I recently had to create a new user account due to issues I had with my other one. Everything was okay until I looked at Task Manager and realized it displays my RAM speed as 800 MHz instead of its actual speed of 1600 MHz! This started to occur ONLY when I made the new account! I was wondering if this is a bug in Windows 10, or something managed to happen with my RAM when I made the new account for whatever reason. Thanks!

Solution
No, likely nothing is wrong with the RAM. But you need to run a benchmark to make sure.

As for the ram configuration there maybe a problem. If the laptop has 2 sticks of equal sized ram it should run in dual channel. But really this makes little difference in real world performance. If you're comfortable, go into the bios and see if there are memory options to play with.
Does it say that it is Dual channel or single Channel?

800MHz x 2 = 1600MHz.

This is dependent on having two sticks of ram, so if you have two sticks of ram, and it says 2 channel ram, then you are getting your 1600MHz, its just a calculation thing.

It is single channel. Does this mean something is wrong with my RAM?

It has 2 4GB sticks, but it is running in single channel. Is this a RAM issue since task manager displays 800 MHZ?

Ddr speed is not dependant on whether it runs in dual channel or not. DDR allows 2 transfers per clock cycle. So even if the memory is working at 800mhz, it's effective throughout is 1600mhz. Likely you pc is reporting the actual speed vs the advertised effective speed.

so nothing is wrong?

You stated you're running in single channel mode - that is the problem.

I don't think he read the entire thread - you confirmed you're running in single channel mode, with 2 sticks of ram. It should still state dual channel, regardless of it being 800 or 1600.

I ran Lenovo Solutio Center, it reported no errors. Does that mean everything is okay?

I figured it out. It is now running in dual channel!
