Question Taskbar icons not working properly

A few days ago when I click on an icon in my taskbar I get forwarded to the Google Search Page. For example, when I click on Amazon icon in the taskbar it takes me to the Google Search Page where before it would take me to the Amazon log in page. Same thing with Yahoo.com. email login and with YouTube, DuckDuckGo, Dropbox, etc.

I don't see any viruses/malware, but as you know such searching software is only as good as the viruses/malware definitions know to it.

Anyone know the cause of this issue? Anyone else have the same issue recently or in the past. Is this caused by Virus????

PS Now notice other desktop launch icons to websites go to Google Search Page too.

so it suppose to be an app or link to the website? sound like you install some browser extension

I reset it already and still of the same problem
Makes not difference what browser I use

I don't believe the issue is the browser.

if you just open chrome does it do the same thing?
using vpn? check your dns server?

When I click on the Chrome Icon for a while nothing would happen. Then some time later I click it and it goes to the Google Search Page.

I use a VPN and all things prior to a few days worked just fine. Turning off the VPN does not make the problem go away.

what anti malware are you using?
did you check dns? using wifi?

I use Acronis

using LAN

DNS is set to 8.8.8.8

what the router? latest firmware on that?
test in safe mode?
does this start after you install acronis?

when you said "forwarded to the Google Search Page" you mean just google.com or something else?

might have to do a fresh os install

Router is fine

Acronis has been in my system for years, nothing changed there.
And not sure why that would have an effect.

The suggestion is a work around, but I want to know what caused this problem in the first place.

something you did in chrome that reset something in chrome

you could create a normal url link instead of the chrome shortcut

The only way I can fix the issue is to go directly to the Web apps, make another shortcut, and delete the old one.

But still does not answer why the issue occurred to begin with.
