Somehow my taskbar turned transparent and I can't get it back to non-transparent. I've been to personalization, colors and turned "transparency effects" off but no change. This makes it impossible to see the icons in the taskbar if the window behind it is the same color as the taskbar icons. Thanks.

Actually, when I started having these problems, I saw that, as I searched for a solution, but never installed it. A friend, who knows much more than me, was helping me swap my hard drive for a bigger one, got me going with some suggested programs like: Sandboxie-Plus, Q-Dir and was also doing some things to make my taskbar more functional like "taskbar "quick launch". Imagine these have nothing to do with my taskbar problem but just mentioning what's been going on. Anytime I get a white background I can't see the icons on the right side of the taskbar. Thanks

Now that I recall, one of the things he did was make the desktop and I guess general theme ,look like it did in an older version of Windows. Could that have had anything to do with it?

Yippee! I figured it out. He had used "open-shell". I found it's settings. They were tricky too. If I selected opaque the taskbar remained transparent. If I selected transparent but adjusted the opacity to 100% it worked. https://postimg.cc/dkNMCY4r
