TCase much higher than TJunction

Hello!

I purchased a new C2D a few days ago. I installed it into my system and now I am worried about the temperatures of my new CPU. Today I stumbled upon the great Core 2 Duo Temperature Guide and the guide stresses that Tcase + 15c = Tjunction. As you can see on the attached picture, this is not the case for me ;-) When I do a 100% stress test with TAT, TCase goes up to 70°+ 8O

Ambient = 22°
Chipset = P965
C2D = E6400
CPU Cooler = Zalman CNPS 9500 AT
Frequency = 2135
Load =
Motherboard = Asus P5B (newest BIOS, flashed yesterday)
Vcore = 1,23V

To clarify my intention: My TCase temperature goes way beyond 70° when I do a 100%@TAT and idles around 55°. Furthermore does the equation Tcase + 15c = Tjunction not hold (in my case). So, is my CPU damaged or is simpy the TCase temperature reported wrong? Can I trust the temperatures reported from CoreTemp? Or are they unreasonable? Which temperature does my CPU actually has?

I would really appreciate some help!
Thanks a lot in advance and please excuse my bad english (not a native speaker...)

Before I forget it, I´m very sure that the 9500 AT is mounted correctly ...

Please provide Idle and Load temps as shown in the Guide under "Results". It's not necessary to include temps from "Core Temp" as SpeedFan shows the temps needed for analysis. Also, your screen shot shows Idle as 14.1%, so be sure that Idle is really Idle. Additionally, be sure to follow the settings as shown under "Testing" as it's important to compare "Apples" to other "Apples" by using a consistent format.

Thanks,

Hello!

Thanks a lot for the fast response!

😳 That´s true, sorry for that ...

OK, after doing another 100%@TAT I am very worried!

Here are my idle temps:
Speedfan: CPU = 46°
Core(1|2) = 25°
TAT: 40°

After the TAT 100% torture:
Speedfan: CPU 77°
Core(1|2) = 57°
TAT: 71°

Why are my TJunction temps lower than my TCase temps? Do I have to worry about these temperatures?
I hope that the TJunction temperatures are correct because then I everything is fine, or is it not?!

Thank you in advance, I really appreciate your fast reply!!

The images are now located on a different server, and will hopefully be displayed correctly - sorry for the inconvenience!

I see several problems, however, don't be concerned with "AUX", as this is just an unassigned sensor input, and is a known SpeedFan issue.

(1) Delta (Idle to Load) should not exceed 25c, and yours is 31 - 32c, which indicates either a concave CPU Integrated Heat Spreader, or poor computer case cooling. Did you test as per the Guide with all fans at 100%, and is your case wiring neat and tidy?

(2) SpeedFan CPU temp (Tcase) is offset by +20c, so you need to configure -20c to correct for this.

(3) TAT is correct, but SpeedFan Core 0 / Core 1 temps (Tjunction) is offset by -15c, so you need to configure +15c to correct for this.

Corrected Results:

Idle:
SpeedFan: CPU = 26°
Core(0/1) = 40°
TAT: 40°

Load (TAT 100%):
SpeedFan: CPU 57°
Core(0/1) = 72°
TAT: 71°

As you can now see, Tcase + ~15c = Tjunction, but even with corrections, your temps are still too high for stock clock @ low Vcore and 22c ambient, so go ahead and make the corrections, but investigate item #1.

Hope this helps,

(1) [...] Did you test as per the Guide with all fans at 100% [...]?

Ups, no ... 😳 My fault ... 😳

Thank you very, very much for the detailed response and explainations! I have made the adjustments and now I can check the temps in a more day-to-day scenario (gaming ;-)) and see if I have to adjust the fan voltage ...

Thank´s again for your help!

Hi!

So what are the corrected load temps with the fans at 100%?

I have thought about your remarks, especially #1 and I think that my case fans are not good enough. Yesterday I ordered some new ones. They will arrive in about 1-2 days and then I am going to do the test again. And this time all my fans will be at 100%.

If you want to, check back in about 2 days, then I will post my new results.

Thank you for your continuous interest !!
