Hi all, I bought a TCL 4k tv (55S401) last summer, I mostly use the roku on it because I cannot get the tv to run at 60hz on my computer. I have a GTX 670 graphics card and a i7 4770k CPU. I bought an active displayport to hdmi adapter ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ6UT21/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I am able to get the tv running up to 54hz through creating a custom resolution in the NVidia Control Panel, but when I try to up the hz to 55 or higher, no dice. The thing is that it doesn't tell me that the tv isn't comparable with the "resolution", it says the test was successful, but when I press okay on the tv remost and look to see what resolution and refresh rate it is running at, it still says 4k 50hz (thats what I''m currently running it at). I know that it is possible to get it to run at 60hz with the 4:4:4 color scheme, I am just not sure how to, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Solution
Ok after some digging Around looking at the adapter you bought only has 6 gig transfer rate max. Secondly those dongles are known to not allow native 4k @60hz
A club 3d adapter would suit you better in this instance. http://www.club-3d.com/en/detail/2366/

Not with HDR.

Things are working as expected.

From what I see on the table, since the tv uses HDMI 2.0 and the adapter should be able to provide the 12.54Gbit/s to the tv, what is the problem? It says on the table that HDMI2.0 should be able to output 14.4Gbit/s, considering I use 8bit color and not 10bit, or I could run 10bit in 4:2:2. And even if HDR won't work, that still doesn't explain why the tv can only run at 54hz. It would make more sense if it was only able to run at something like 30hz, something just doesn't seem to be right here...

HDR uses 10 bit color. The maximum limit of HDMI 2.0 at that resolution with 10-bit 4:4:4 color is exactly 54.1 Hz, so that does appear to be what's going on here.

I understand I can't run 10 bit color, like I said, that is not really what I care about all that much, what I am more not happy with is why I can't run the tv at 60hz in 8 bit color, I don't have the color settings set to 10 bit, only 8, but I'm still stuck at 54hz they seem to be connected, maybe the computer thinks that the tv is trying to use 10 bit? idk, just throwing out ideas here. But I'm fine with running in 8 bit, just want 60hz. Also, I don't even have the option for 10bit, only 8bit, and I am also limited to only using RGB.

You put HDR in the post title; do you have HDR enabled in Windows or something?

I don't care all that much about hdr in all honesty, sure it would be cool, but I really just want to figure out how to get the display running at 60hz. It even says in DxDiag that the native mode for the display is 4k at 60hz

So I am not sure why it isnt working...

I'm not certain either then.

When selecting the resolution from the NVIDIA control panel, try scrolling down and seeing if there is another listing for 3840×2160 in the "PC" section. And just to verify, when you set custom resolutions, you are selecting CVT-Reduced Blank timing, right?

Okay, I think something happened or I am just dumb but I was able to at least get up to 60hz with CVT RB for the timing, so my issue now is that there are blue lines on the screen and the screen keeps cutting in and out, like there is an issue with the connection, maybe a bad cable or adapter?
