Everything is in the name of the question basically. I have TDS wifi provider. Gigabit fiber internet since it is the only fiber option. Crappy speeds even when only one device is connected 60-150 mbps. But when the technician guy connects he gets 300 wirelessly and 800+ wired. I tried switching the original router they gave us (eero) to a Reyee RG-E5, but unfortunately it showed the exact same speeds even on a single connected device (iphone 14). I am tired of these speeds and I am crying out for help. The Technician kept telling me it was the amount of devices connected but proved that to be wrong after I connected my new router with only one device connected (my iphone) and still got the exact same speeds (60-150 mbps). I looked where the main router was connected to and it was using a CAT 5E ethernet cable which should be able to hold up to a gig of speed but Idk. Please help!

Is this performance isolated to the iPhone 14, or also to other devices?

Also, are you wirelessly connecting via the 2.4Ghz or 5.0Ghz wireless network?

How are you measuring performance?
Hello,

First I must say thank you for replying.

The wifi performance is not just on my iphone, it is on my desktop computer which has some tp-link adapter. And that desktop has gotten gigabit speeds before connected to a different SSID. I am not sure if I am running 2.4 or 5G, I am guessing it is automatic.

I’m not really sure what you mean by measuring the performance but I have been using Fast.com to measure the speeds. And when I first connected my phone to my wifi (when it was first set up)(only about 2 devices connected at the time) I was getting 60-150 mbps and when I tried out my Reyee router and only my iphone was connected it spit out the same speeds.

The technician kept saying “too many devices connected.” But I did prove that to be wrong.

Thanks,

Your router likely broadcasts two networks. One at the slower, longer range 2.4 range and the other at the faster, shorter range 5.0 range.

Accessing your router's wireless settings will shed some light on what your devices are using if you aren't sure how to check on them.

On the “Reyee” router i set up to test the speeds again was on 5G must I add. And one device connected aswell. The “EERO” app did not have any option to change any of that. I also want to tell you that the app was showing that the router was spitting out gig speeds but apparently it was lying.

Did Speedtest identify a location near you/for your ISP?

How does your PC connect to your router? Wired or wireless?

Is this your ISP? If so, what level of service are you subscribed to?

Yes it did give me my correct location and I connect wirelessly and I also connect wired to a wireless extender which does boost my speeds just cause they are so slow. Right now I am subscribed to gigabit service (wired to my wireless extender gives me about 100 extra mbps)

Those extenders and wireless connections will be slower, in general, than when connected directly to your main router.

When speed testing your service, you should be measuring without extenders.
Yes, I understand. To not have that problem I connected that reyee router which had no extenders. Same speeds.

To confirm, both wired and wireless devices are performing the same?
I cannot attach wired to my main router since it is in my garage but wirelessly on my phone to my main garage router gets about 100 and wired to my wireless extender upstairs gives me about +100 which is about 230. Not sure how wired to a wireless router works but it does.

This configuration is VERY likely your issue. Test something directly in the garage and measure the difference.
