Very often while playing Team Fortress 2, and no other game does this, it will crash my display driver and sometimes I have to restart it. But even more often it crashes my entire PC and requires a hard restart. When it crashes the last sound heard just loops and nothing I press or do does anything to stop it. My drivers are up to date, my gpu is not dead, I verified integrity of game cache, and some other small fixes I've seen, nothing worked. Note that if my gpu is overclocked it works fine in most games except ones that are not very GPU intensive like TF2 and other Source engine games, where it crashes the display driver really quickly. But all these crashes are happening without any overclock whatsoever and seem to happen randomly.
Thanks to those who respond with advice.

No, I don't want to lose all the custom maps and stuff from the servers I play on. But you reminded me of another problem, my in game graphics settings seem to be bugged, and whenever I change them, when I start the game next they are back to what they were. And when I change 1 setting, I think it resets the rest to default, its just kinda confusing.

will try

still crashing my pc after full re-install

just curious, with -dxlevel comands, is there a way to make it not reset all my graphics options every time I open the game

I've not had that trouble when I messed with that command a while back...

I have always had trouble with it, have to reset all my settings ever launnch, or add all these commands to launch and its difficult to find a site that lists them all.

although I have not had to hard restart my PC after the clean driver install, the display driver is still crashing and I suspect I eventually will need to hard restart some more.

The gpu works fine in every single game, so i think it's an issue with team fortress 2

all good, I did mess with tdrdelay in the past so I could take super high res screenshots in spaceengine, could that be a problem.

I also have a 750ti, can I run tf2 on that but all other games on the 980, or is that insane to think...

My question is how, with both gpu's in my system is it possible to run certain games on either or, not just the main one the display is plugged into.
