TEC waterblock any good?

i have currently got a really good WC loop but am wondering if i should fork out £140 for a second power supply and a TEC waterblock. the psu im looking at is http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=609318 , and the TEC waterblock is http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=607387 , i have had water cooling for a while now and frankly am bored, so will a TEC waterblock allow me to OC more or just bring down my load temps which are about 55 celcius. Also will the power supply be suitable, it says it has 2 rails which is bs it only has one. or should i sell my e8400 and spend the money on a e8600? if so who wants a e8400 for say £80.

TEC in theory will allow OCing more but it depends on your motherboard, CPU, skill, and the risks you are willing to take (ie pushing 1.6+v to the CPU).

Shadow pretty much hit most of the points here. The main way to increase your clocks and have them remain stable will likely be to push more voltage to your CPU and move up your clocks, which will in turn, create more heat. If you can eliminate as much heat as you can from the equation (good in theory, failure in practice) your limitation should be the voltage and speed limitation of your CPU and motherboard...as well as your RAM. Usually, you will also need to adjust your RAM voltage to allow it to climb incrementally with your FSB, unless you have an EE/BE CPU or one with an unlocked multiplier.

That swiftech only has a 50x50 peltier i believe. So it's probably rate to ~225W. That's not alot as far as peltiers go, but should be enough to cool down a dual core. Most use a 437W unit for quad cores. The benefit is, condensation will be less of an issue. Though it's still a huge issue. Aside from greasing the mobo, you'll have to insulate tubing, and the block itself. I've seen people encase the entire block in shrink wrap, and that worked well. I know you said you have a good loop, but this will probibly require at least a triple 120mm rad, maybe more.

I've been itching to try a peltier block, but I'm too afraid of condensation. To be safe you have to take some pretty drastic measures. Check this PSU out as well, http://www.frozencpu.com/psu-123.html . Also, if you can find it, there's a peltier block with dual in-out nozzles, called the arctic web i think. Take a look at that before buying the swiftech.

yea about the rad i got 2 triple 120mm rads, so i think thats okay. i might just go for the e8600 and sell my e8400 cos i rekon id get about £80 back for it then i could reach higher clocks without the exteme cooling and vcore. i might save for vapochill 😀

HD 3x500gb in Raid 0
WC loop alpacool ap1510 at 24v, 2x360mm rads, ek supreme water block, ek 250mm res. all in 1/2" tygon.

Even with all that i can only get 4.05ghz at 1.41v vcore in cpuz.

i rekon im gunna sell my e8400 and get a e8600 and the pelt block, was orignaly going to get second gfx card but doesnt seem worth it atm cos i can play any game out there.

You probably need to get a better motherboard Ie. Rampage or X48-DQ6.

the rampage is actually the same mobo but with a diffrent bios.

I say go for a new cpu. An E8400 or E8500 with E0 stepping would save some $$ as apposed to the E8600. Might want to wait until there's a better chance of getting an E0 chip though.

well i have made my mind up im going to buy a 400w pelt thats 50mm by 50mm from ebay and then see what i can get with my e8400 if its not that much better then ill got for the e8600

erm i was looking at the 400w pelt on e-bay and it turns out it can only shift 250w of heat, anyway it turns out it cant improve your speed that much compared to water cooling. so im just going to save up for a vapochill light speed and a lianli case. because i have to go through the same hassle of prepareing the mobo so i might aswell do it for a -50 idle and -20 load.

but for the time being im going to buy thr e8600 cos they are all e0 and see if i can figure out why my WC loop runs so hot.

of course its mounted corectly 😛 meh im looking for a vapochill lightspeed atm forund a send hand one for £235 which i think is a bargain so am trying to buy it but am going on hols tomorrow so cant pick it up 🙁
