Tech: Replacing Two big Blues Help!

I searched the archives because I couldn't believe that this has not been
covered before, but I didn't find anything, so here is my question. When I
opened my Spy Hunter to replace the big blue, I found that I had two of
them! One was a 100,000 MFD and the other was 55,000 MFD. I had two of the
28,000 ones from Bob Roberts so I tried them, no joy. What do people do to
replace these?

RTFM, nevermind, I looked on Bob's site and saw he had them!

So that this is available for future google searches of rgvac...

"Big Blue" was used in the transformer assembly of ATARI games.
(26,000uf 15V, exact fit new replacement is $12.50 from Bob Roberts)

Spy Hunter was a MIDWAY game. As you found out, it's power supply
assembly uses two large electrolytic filter capacitors. Neither of
these are the same as "Big Blue". (I believe that all of the MCR
series games used these same two caps.)

Bob Roberts has exact fit new replacements for the Midway caps:
55kuf25volt CG cap 2 1/2" D x 3", $15.00
100kuf15volt CG cap 3" D x 5", $15.00

Last year, I restored a Tron that had a slight case of "hum bars". At
that time, Bob didn't have both of the big caps, and I ended up
getting some from Digikey.

P10002-ND, 100000uf 16V, about $10
P10007-ND, 56000uf 25V, about $12

These worked fine, and the hum bars went away. Note however, that
these caps were a lot smaller than the originals, and I had to rig a
new mount to hold them in place. Also, these didn't have screw
terminals, so the wires had to be soldered.

So ... unless you're desperate to save $8, get new ones from Bob.

Unfortunately, Bob is out of the 100Kuf capacitors. He is not sure if or
when he is getting more in because the price has jumped significantly, so
Digikey may be the only alternative for right now.
