I tried a U2000 chassis on it that worked on another tube and it too
shutdown. The K7400 was the replacement for the U2000 so they should be
interchangeable, correct?

The neck of the tube glowed brightly when the U2000 would run for a few
seconds but the tube tested ok with my tester. Weird?

Or did I miss something?

I think Bob has the 7400 kits. www.therealbobroberts.com

Try a cap kit as Ken has pointed out.
If it still shuts down then you will need to get in there with a HV
probe and readjust the HV shutdown and the HV Level(25K). If you have a
resitor Dec box it will help a lot. Or you can use a pot just don't
adjust it with the monitor on.

Good Luck
