Telus Digital Box to Pc

Hi I was wondering how you connect your PC to the internet with the modem being on the otherside of the house without a long Ethernet cable. I plugged my Ethernet cable into the PC and digital box, I get a conection but on my PC but when I try going on to a website it doesn't load.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 BTW

Never mind I just had to change some of the settings but I got it to work
