Waiting on my Hyper evo 212 in the mail, it comes in on thursday. So untill then im rocking the stock cooler on my FX 6300. I took off the stock cooler and replaced the thermal paste with Antec Formula 7 Nano diamond thermal paste. Weird thing is now im hitting 62c....................

Did what every site i could find said, straight like-like rice sized down the middle then spread, make sure its even and no air bubbles.

Any ideas on why my cpu jumped 7 degrees?

No spread. Put the drop down, then install the cooler. Let the cooler spread the thermal paste. It will fill in tiny gaps this way. Obviously, you want to do your best to install the cooler as straight as possible when lowering it, but its not rocket science. Just do your best, and if the drop of thermal paste was the right size, then it will work out fine.

And yes, there are differences between thermal pastes, just as there are differences in everything else on this planet.

More likely that ambient temps caused a temperature difference than the paste unless it was a difference in installation of the cooler, getting it properly seated. Differences between thermal pastes are generally 1-3c, not 7 unless you're using some special high dollar multi step application like coollaboratories kits.

I simply do not have the time to test stuff like that. I use Arctic Silver. It works for me. I'm sure there might be better thermal pastes out there, but the difference is probably less than 5 degrees, which to me is not going to matter.

I have the same CPU Cooler. Just use whatever you are comfortable with, and it will do the job. The only thing I changed was to dump the fan that came with it, and used a Noctua fan on it instead. Far better airflow, and so quiet I cant hear it at all (but I am almost deaf, but I could hear the old one with the case side off, but not the Noctua).

I also replaced the case fans recently. The front fan died a week after the Cooler Master 1 year warranty expired. So I bought 2 Noctua fans for the front of the case, and another for the rear. All 4 were the industrial versions that are black.

I was laughing when I did the math on the 150,000 hour rating they have. Thats a whopping 17 years.

Noise isnt really an issue for me, i usually have music, movies, or some type of crap going off in my room so loud i can't hear my computer anyway lol. From the reviews and videos i've seen the CM stock fan will do the job untill it blows out than ill switch it out for something better. With every company they rate their product at a high life span just for consumers to buy it. What they don't say is that it will only last that long is if you don't use it 😛

I kind of used bad wording, my processor hasnt collected dust that i can see yet since all my parts are barely 2 months old, and when i said disassemble i didnt mean take EVERYTHING apart, i just meant clean everything out with an air duster. I havent cleaned my processor cause it hasnt gotten dirty, but i've air dusted everything else. Thats what i was trying to say lol. Long days = poop for brains.

You were right though Mark. My thermal paste i just wasted 11 bucks on at bestbuy didnt really help all that much but 2 degrees lol. I did also see that i accidently left the cooler half cocked crooked. I cleaned it, reaplied as you directed, and now it sits fine at 53, 55 when im on intense games. My hyper evo 212 comes in tomorrow so 😛
