Hey!

Were checking over the health of my computer last week and i found a little problem in my opinion.

Have a E8500, and have been using the standard intel cooler.
My idle temps were laying at around 48-51 degree and loading not much higher topping on 57 degrees (under not too long testing)

So decided to buy a new heatsink. Bought a thermaright ultra-120 x with a Noctua 120mm fan.

Took it home. rigged the motherboard outside the computer since i had everything out anyway. started everything up and Voila!

Idle temps had gone down to around 46 degrees and load around 54 degrees ( No diffrence at all in my opinion since i had the motherboad outside the box).

When i bought the cooler i was under the impression that like 90% of the people that buys this cooler see a tempdroop with atleast 10 degrees.

Took the TERMO out and checked for conclaves.. Here´s a pic of it

The second pic can trick the eye alittle because of reflextions in the sink. but still

So to my question. Can this conclave be the huge problem here, and maybe fix those 10 degrees or so?

Or can it be something else, since im laying on such insanly high idle and pretty low load. I dont know

I´m up for ideas😀

Are you way overclocking your CPU? Seems your temps are borked . What are you using to measure temps and loading the CPU with?

I use Orthos and Realtemp, there are others.

Many have lapped their CPU/HS with good results. If your HS leaves a solid contact spot right in the middle of the CPU then I'd say it's good contact. If it's off to the side or not centered then lap that HS.
Read up on the washer/penny trick for that cooler too.
And what is your method of TIM paste application and what TIM are you using? Some are real crap, not sure what the TRUE came with.

Just remembered, your temp sensors on the chip itself might be one of the messed up ones. I know little on that, so hopefully others will chime in.

Also, look at the post above this one, it's your HS, good info to read.

Realtemp temperatures are off... better to use Coretemp.

Most of the sinks are bowed as IHS on the cpu are concaved. You can try to lap the sink if you want. Did you put a thermal paste?

The thing is that my comp is not overclocked at all. Not the slightest bit, no memory/cpu or grafic clocking.

I have messured the temps with HWmonitor and everest. everest is even alittle higher. i guess i can try with coretemp too.

i have been using Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound witch shouldnt have a burn time or anything.

have been putting a ricecorn in the middle on the cpu before i have put the sink down. There is troubles tho with the mouning because of the bad and tight positioning and the backplate.

Sorry for keep posting without any respons inbetween but i cant edit my other posts.

Just tested my cpu with the standard cooler. idle temp was around 50 degrees and full load in orthos for 40 mins topped at 58 degrees.

what i think is wierd is the litle diffrence in idle/load temps. Can my low temp be stuck in some way?

Maybe a stuck sensor, a mate of mine had it too, his idle temps were 49C and full load was 52 (linpack). If I was you I would RMA it if possible.

RMA?

Sorry im not a uk/us user so im not 100% what that could mean😀
