Temperature's extremely high on motherboard

Hello,

Before I write anything here are my system specs:
Asus P8B75-m LX
Intel i5-3470 w/standard heatsink
Corsair CX500M
Evga GTX970
Corsair Vengance 4GB DDR3

I'm having an issue where the temperatures on my motherboard are reaching quite abnormal levels, around 100'C. I have tested the temperatures on 3 different monitoring programs: Open Hardware Monitor (lets call it OHM), HWMonitor and HWInfo.

The weird thing is that OHM and HWInfo show high temperatures, whereas HWMonitor shows temperatures that are completely fine. I did a good, solid hover/poke test even though it's not that reliable, and I can't really feel anywhere that's anywhere near 100 degrees. I haven't really got access to an IR Thermometer to properly check the temps either.

One of the things I suspect is that one of the sensors, or a couple of the sensors are faulty, hence showing silly temperatures, at the end of the day it is quite an old motherboard, however I may be wrong.

Has anyone ever come accross an issue like this? If so, what did you do to fix it?

Yes MagicMik0, Your CPU core temperatures are very high.
Temps at idle should be 10-15C above ambient room temperature and 60-65C under load.
You cooling system is not coping and you should replace the TIM.
List the CPU cooler as it may require an upgrade or its inefficient due to dust build up.

When temps reach as high as 100C which is close to thermal Max, the CPU will throttle to prevent damage. You must rectify this or you will degrade your processor.

So I have bought a new cooler and changed the TIM etc. gave the whole rig a good old blast with compressed air getting rid of dust. The BIOS shows MBO temp as 19'C, however Open Hardware Monitor and HWInfo are still showing over 100 (at idle), HWMonitor however is completely fine, showing results similar to the BIOS results.

As soon as I get my hands on an USB stick I'll try update the BIOS drivers and see if that impacts the temp monitoring software values.

Any other suggestions??

Some software temperature monitoring packages do show erroneous readings especially if two are used together. It can also depend on where and how the sensors read info from the MB.
Sometimes the package needs to be re installed.

Try also CoreTemp monitor from here: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ It also comes with an additional grapher plugin which I use and is very convenient.

Check your core temp with your finger touching the thermal transfer plate. It would feel very hot at 100C.
At normal temps you would be able to feel it warm but not that hot.

I'm going to say that there is a component/s on you mother board that none of these programs can properly interpret. For example, on my motherboard there HWinfo consistently reports a solid 100~102 degrees celsius for AUXIN3 regardless of how much freeze spray or IR thermometer scanning I did. Same thing for AUXIN2 it always says something is 21C (which I confirmed was bogus after taking a heat gun to the board). Turns out these were just erroneous data points that the programs just didn’t know how to display correctly. Wouldn’t hurt to pick up a cheapo IR thermometer and scan around though just to be sure. I got a fairly decent one from harbor fright for around $13 (ended up using it mostly for cooking and checking tire temps on my car lol).
