Hey,

recently i've bought all the components i need to build my new computer. The only thing that is missing is a new case and i thought i would buy it later because my knew components would probably fit into my old case. Well it turns out that my motherboard can't be installed into my case without making huge adjustmens like destroying parts of the case. Now i thought to just put my components into the case without mounting them and to move the case to a horizontal position. I know that would look absolutely ridiculous but i would keep it that way just untill next month. Now my quesiton is, that i'm not sure if that is a smart thing to do. Is it possible that something may get damaged when it's not mounted? Like the GPU? Is it even possible to mount my cpu cooler without mounting the motherboard to the case? I hope you have a suggestion.

Setting it in the case would be a huge risk for shorting (thats what the standoffs are for).
If you want to, and know nothing will touch it, just assemble the PC on the table or the boxes it came in. It wont be physically stable, but if you dont hit it or let things into it its actually quite safe.
