Hello,
I recently got a new motherboard (Tyan Tomcat K8E s2865) and due to size constraints around the socket, the biggest heatsink I could go with is the XP-90 with Thermalright's recommended Panaflo 92mm fan (medium speed 48 CFM@ 2450RPM). With casual usage I get temps between 40C-42C with the case closed (Antec Sonata II). With Cool&Quiet enabled I can get those temps down to around 37C-38C. But under load (2x instances of F@H or 1x F@H and 1x prime95) the cpu will rise up to 59C with the case closed and 57C with an open case.

Temps don't seem to vary greatly between the case being open or closed. I haven't experienced any issues concerning system stability either. Would just like to know if these temps are common or what fan are people using on an XP-90? Maybe I was just babied with the Zalman 77000cu I had, couldn't get the cpu higher than 47C no matter what. Thanks.

Did it drop Temps from stock cooling? My 2x 3800 With Stock cooling idles 28*C and full load 34*C. Not overclocking. (Helps that i have a full tower case with 4 fans in it.) Its beastly loud too.

I've never used the stock hsf. It was the retail boxed cpu, but I went straight to the Zalman first time I installed it (had the cpu for a year or so now). The fan is also going at full speed. With the Zalman, I had that fan on the lowest setting (silent mode) and it never got above the mid 40's. Thing is the heatsink as close as I can get to the bottom where it's making contact with the cpu itself, feels luke warm at the most, even when temps get into the upper 50's. But it could also the board itself, Tyan makes a great board, but from experience with a couple server boards for some reason their temp monitors always seem to be off.

The layout of the board is similar to the DFI LP UT Ultra-D, but the socket sits closer to the front of the board (or case) which there is not only the Panaflo going on it, the front 120mm fan is right there blowing air across it, so I don't know.

After doing some more measuring it looks like I might be able to squeeze a Zalman 7000cu in there after all, might try that.

Did it drop Temps from stock cooling?
Actually I can answer that now as today just to see what it would do, replaced the xp-90 with the stock AMD cooler (one with the heatpipes and 80mmx15mm fan). With C&Q enabled I saw pretty much the same idle temps as with the xp-90, but running 2 instances of F@H temps with the stock cooler were 4C-5C less. I still say the motherboard is reading temps on the high side but seeing that everything was exactly the same except for the hsf used I'm a bit disappointed in the performance of the xp-90. Granted the AMD fan spins 2x faster than Thermalright's recommended Panaflo (which I used at full speed), but I don't know that it would push much more air. Also of note the AMD sink feels noticeably heavier than the xp-90.

The X2 stock coolers are not your average weak-cooling cheapo solution. In fact they are extremely eficient and do an excellent job.
If you want a 3rd party cooler maybe you should check the Zalman 9500. That's gotta be able to lower temps a bit more (If that can't, then what will?!)

You are using Arctic Silver 5, right?
