I have a negative pressure setup in my rig (more exhaust than intake), I have 2 top exhaust + 1 back exhaust. 2 front intake. All 140 fans. The average temp reading when idle or doing small task such as web browsing seems to be around 72 degrees F, or 22 degrees C. Is this good or am I doing something wrong? Should my fan setup be different?

I have one intake directly aiming at GTX 970, other intake towards PSU, I have two exhaust on top closer to CPU and Memory, plus the back exhaust.

22C probably isn't much over room temperature, so there's no problem there. The temps you should be thinking about are load temps, though, as idle temps pretty much mean nothing to the performance/life of a PC unless they're completely out of control (60C or something silly like that).

Perhaps you already know, but the primary disadvantage to negative pressure is dust brought in through unfiltered cracks in the case. If your intakes aren't filtered int he first place, there's no real difference, though.

I wanted to build a positive pressure but did not see how it would be possible. I mean my one side is a window, other side contains components, so no room for side fans. the top should be exhaust based on science of hot air rising right? and my front ones only make sense to be intake, rear needs to be exhaust otherwise I would just be going against my front fans... so not sure how to build a proper positive?

So as far as dust management goes, you could improve that situation by moving one of your exhaust fans over to intake duty, but aside from that you're fine.

Linus Tech Tips just did a quick and dirty test on the "right number" of case fans, and found that with a single GPU setup the cooling performance didn't really change much after 3 fans, regardless of how they were arranged. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OmkmluAYAQ

Take it with a grain of salt, as it's a very YMMV situation, but interesting nonetheless.

Lol, yea I already watched that guy. My optical drive and fan controller block the option of having to create a third intake and eliminate one of my exhaust, I guess I could just eliminate a exhaust and only have one up top?

nice read, very interesting indeed..

Are you air cooling your cpu? Your temps are likely fine with only 3 fans, but if you want to maintain positive pressure and use an extra fan, then use the top front slot for an intake fan to feed air to your front cpu fan and MB. Like Sheneiky said, heat doesn't rise in a case with active air flow.
