tenative specs, suggestions??

I am planning on building a computer in a month and this is what i have sofar decided on to be the best value:

AMD A64 3200+ (NewCastle)
MSI K8N Neo Platinum nForce3 250
High Tech "Excalibur R9800 Pro ICEQ" 128mb (plan to oc to XT speeds)
(2x512mb) Corsair XMS3200 2-3-3-6
Toshiba DVD+CDRW combo
Western Digital 80GB 7200 HDD
Thermaltake XASER III w/ 420 watt power supply

so what should i keep/change?

Maybe a bigger SATA HD. Other than that, you're good to go. Keep in mind that things can change pretty fast in 30 days.

Toshiba DVD+CDRW combo

That's the only thing i'm not sure of, never heard of anything about them, maybe it's better just to go with the cheap Liteon stuff, they're very decent.

I have a Toshiba CD-RW Combo, they are very reliable. I hope that Toshiba had carried on with the good work with the DVD products

3200+, you should review that and get an A64 3500+ on S939 or else you will only have a single channel memory controller. That means changing your mobo to MSI K8N Neo<b>2</b> Platinum, RAM's OK, Video... GeForce FX 5700 w\256MB... mainly because ATI has a bad software team. I have a friend that has a R9600 SE and is having a lot of problems W\ games, either he can't see the cursor in DeusEx 2, or he can't play Halo smooth, or he can't see graphics the way he should, all sort of such problems.

HDD, get a Raptor 74GB (SATA 10000rpm). The rest seem fine, except that I would never go for a Combo drive. Try a CD-RW drive and a DVD-ROM drive, you'll get the same price.

FYI the 9600 SE is a pos $100 video card. It's for people who dont do 3D. Sure, it's better than a 5200, but not by much.

ATI's SE cards are as bad as nVIDIA's XT cards, and I would never get anything worse then a FX5700. I'm considering a 6800, but I believe a bit later.
