Terrible keyboard/mouse hesitation - Wireless AND Wired - ALL USB's

Hi there, folks. I'm trying to troubleshoot an incredibly frustrating and disruptive issue with my mouse and keyboard. Simply put, they hesitate constantly on my new desktop build. It's (obviously) been very frustrating to not be able to really enjoy the new system to this point.

I've swapped both (Wireless Logitech M510 mouse - K360 keyboard) out for others that I've got around the house .. including wired devices. I've tried every USB port on the computer .. same result. It'll work for a random period of time, freeze for 5-10 seconds, work again for a random period of time, and freeze for 5-10 seconds again.

Kinda thinking this is probably an issue with my RAM. I've tried tweaking the voltages, lowering the timings down from 1600 to 1333 .. and even from 1333 to 1066. None of those have helped whatsoever. If necessary, I COULD replace the RAM. It'd suck to go to all of that trouble and end up with the same issue when I get the replacement though. Troubleshooting tips please?

check your cpu usage. is it out of the norm?

is it just the mouse which freezes or does your entire system hiccup?

Nah, the CPU usage can be very low and it'll still act up. The system itself seems to run fine even when the cursor or keyboard freezes while typing. I made sure to let it act up while watching video and also playing a game in windowed mode to be sure earlier, and they continued to run fine. :-/

does it have issues with both usb keyboards and mice AND ps/2 keyboards and mice?

have you tried formatting and reinstalling windows and then testing from a bare install?

I haven't actually tried a ps/2 yet. I'm sure there's an old one around here somewhere though .. try that in a few.

Oh, btw ... I've got a GUI bios that lets me use the mouse, and it seems to be fine in there. Which isn't really surprising at all considering the BIOS takes virtually no resources to run. Still ..

Haven't given that a try yet. I was planning to dual boot Linux Mint 16 anyways, so I may go ahead and install and see if it's okay in that before starting with a clean install again.

Well, it's definitely hardware related, that's for sure. I couldn't find a PS/2 mouse or keyboard, but it did the same thing in my Linux Mint liveboot as well. Thought it was going to cooperate .. everything was blazing fast ...... except for the friggin' mouse hesitation >_>

perhaps you need to rma the motherboard.

I know it must be either the RAM, the CPU or the motherboard. *sigh* I am gonna see if I can get a friend to bring two sticks of his RAM this evening to see if that fixes it. If not, I believe there's an old Athlon x2 5600 or something around here. I've got an AM3 socket CPU somewhere that I can pop into this AM3+ mobo. Suppose if neither solves the problem mobo RMA it is. :-/

same problem with brand new system - 8 core CPU, 16 GB RAM, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, random periods of major hesitation. Just saw a post elsewhere and decided to try that solution, which seems to be working super so far (2 full days) . . . . and that solution is to use a USB cable to get that receiver within a few inches of the mouse and keyboard, instead of leaving it plugged directly into the computer. All the advice re how far it will reach from Logitech notwithstanding, getting the receiver close seems to be the answer, at least for me. It's not pretty but it works!!!
