Terrible Performance when using TV

I have a
GTX 1080
i5 4670k
16 GB Ram

My question is this, why do i get terrible FPS when using an hdmi cord to play games from my pc to my 55inch 4k TV. Ive downscale the resolution to 1440p instead of 2160p. I get amazing frames on my 1440p monitor so im not sure what the problem is. Ive tried simple games from Bioshock all the way up to Fallout 4. My PC is certainly capable of running these games. Any help would be appreciated. Also note that the games when playing on TV never go above 30fps when im using a 60khz port on the tv.

I think it could be a couple of things, maybe the fact that the TV is 55", your PC has a lot more screen space to render although it is still at the same resolution.

Does your pc act the same way when using a standard PC monitor?

No the PC is fine on a 27' 1440p monitor. I understand ill take a performance hit but not rising about 30fps? Vsync is turned off aswell.

can you please explain how the bigger screen takes more processing power?
im not 100% sure.... im pretty sure that screen size does not affect processing whatsoever .... its the number of pixels, not how large they are.

Anyway, Cunfuzle what is the brand and model of your TV? While your GPU has an HDMI 2.0 port if the TV's port is only 1.4b and not 2.0 it will only provide 30hz at anything over 1080p

Anyway, Cunfuzle what is the brand and model of your TV? While your GPU has an HDMI 2.0 port if the TV's port is only 1.4b and not 2.0 it will only provide 30hz at anything over 1080p

Ok only 1 of the 5 HDMI inputs on that is HDMI 2.0, thats your problem, you are likely connected to one thats only HDMI 1.4b

The Yellow port #5 (the top one) is the only one that can display anything above 1080p at 60 hz.

looking at one of the reviews, the 5th hdmi power is 2.0. try different hdmi ports . one of them should give you 60 fps

I am not. The HDMI ports are labeled and i am plugged into the 60khz port.

Have you tried to run your games at 4k to see if it works right? Also double check the output in your Nvidia console to make sure its outputting at 60hz. If it is, it may be time to call Vizio sounds like the port may not be functioning properly.

I remember that when I plugged my PC into a bigger monitor it took a performance hit but plugging it into a normal monitor it behaved as normal with no change in resolution.

Amazon basics are pretty trustworthy, and since they sell so many, they are always getting in new stock.

Rather then running 2560x1440 you should go ahead and run at 4K, just lower some settings to get similar performance. Should look better that way without having to re-scale. If the TV has a "Game" mode you'll also want that on to disable extra features. Should improve the response time and mitigate some ghosting.

Depending on its age it may or may not be fine. If you order one right now its correctly rated. But one from a few years ago, may not be.

Sadly you'll find a lot of cheaper cables that are labeled as high speed but really aren't, or meet an older standard. This is likely a case of borrowing or copying molds for other cables and stripping out as much as possible to make them cheaper. If that means not meeting common bandwidth requirements, then that is what they will do. Either by leaving out shielding, and I would have to confirm this, or if there is a physical difference between a high speed and regular cable. (Might be as simple as a resistor value to let each end know the max speed)

Otherwise then I would say the port on the TV is not working correctly (if its not the cable).

Don't be so sure, my company had to try several different cables before ones were found that actually work.
