Im using a 2013 Laptop with a GTX 780m graphics card, my PC display is set to 1080p I used to have a VIZIO E420d-A0 42-inch 1080p 120Hz LED Smart 3D HDTV that I used as a monitor and it ran games smoothly with no screen tearing or problems. I recently sold that tv and "upgraded" to a Samsung UN40KU6300 which is a 60hz 4k tv. My PS3 and 4 run fine on it however when I hook it to my pc via hdmi (im guessing the port on my laptop is hdmi 1.4) the tv set says 2160p 30p (if im using a 60hz tv shouldnt that say 60p?). WHen I try to game on it I get terrible screen tearing and judder also when browsing webpages if i scroll I also see what looks like screen tearing (i didnt know a web browser could screen tear) as well as black lines coming from the bottom of text on pages when I scroll the lines disappear when I stop scrolling, when typing the typing cursor leave after images of itself at every place a type that disappear after a few secs.
Is this monitor/tv bad or is it a graphics card problem? If so well how so when the display on my pc is set to 1080p (its not like im TRYING to run at 4k) however 2160p is what the tv defaults too (despite the pc being on 1080p) and theres no way to lower the tv resolution down to 1080p. Is the 30p on the tv what really causing the problem? i.e if I could hook a displayport to hdmi 2.1 converter to my laptop and put a high speed hdmi cable in there would that change my tv display from sayng 2160p 30p to 2160p 60p (id still keep my pc set to 1080p though)? If so would that eliminate the screen tearing and judder problem that my other tv no longer had?
If not would getting a new/better 4k tv fix the problem or will ALL 4k tvs suffer that same problem because my laptop and graphics card are "old" and thus my only hope for running games ok on it is to use a 1080p display/monitor?
