I have an old Toshiba notebook NB-200-13J with Windows XP .
One day it started to be a lot slower that it used to be so I installed Lubuntu
and later , until now , LXDE Desktop that it appears to be much more optimized for old laptops .

I already tried to replace my 160GB Toshiba HDD with a new 500GB WD HDD ,
but as result it kept running slower .

Now , before I end up that it's a CPU problem , I am messing around with my RAM .
It's a 1GB Samsung SDDR2 stick .
Full name is SAMSUNG 1GB 2Rx16-6400S-666-12-A3 and Linux specs report it as DDR at 533Mhz

RAM TEST I MADE :

I've already run Memtest86 with no errors .

Also, I've tried Memory benchmarks with Phoronix-test
    suite
after 9 passes the average Memory Bandwidth appears to be from ~1700 MB/s (max) down to ~720 MB/s (min) . Three (3) passed failed ( Add , Copy , Scale )

Question :

    1) I need to know if my ram has aged ,as ram has a critical impact on performance .
What actions should I make to see that ?

    2) If memory bandwidth is lower that is
    should be could replace it
solve my problem or bandwidth has nothing to do with it ?

    3) Aside from phoronixI hardly found any test tool for RAM .If I want to solve my problem ,
am I forced to switch from Linux to Windows environment

Additional information

There is no option to change the DRAM frequency in BIOS or any frequency at all
The max amount of RAM the motherboard can get is up to 2 GB ( stock 1 GB )

If memtest shows NO errors for a full pass, your ram is OK.

If a laptop slows down, it is likely either malware or a heat issue where the cooling fans have accumulated dust.

If you want performance in a laptop, move windows to a ssd.
The free Samsung migration aid will do this to a Samsung ssd.

Hello @geofelt , I am very thankful for your answer and sorry that it took me that long to answer .

I already told above that I am running a Linux version based on Ubuntu and It is nearly impossible that I've been infected with a malware ( especially on a fress install , that I didn't make clear above ) .

A heat issue could be a problem if it was getting slower and slower by the time . Instead , it boot's slow and keeps acting that way . In addition I recently cleaned the fan .

Loss of perfomance can be a lot of things but the most common of these all are HDD , RAM , CPU or GPU . I already checked HDD ,as I wrote above .
I already tried to replace my 160GB Toshiba HDD with a new 500GB WD HDD ,
but as result it kept running slower .
I am asking a professional opinion on how to check if my RAM keeps running as good as it was .

Now , before I end up that it's a CPU problem , I am messing around with my RAM .
I am really sorry if I wasn't clear on my first post
