Hi I'm building a computer and I am using an a case from my old rig. And I was wondering if there was anyway to test the hard drive before putting it in my case. I am still waiting for my parts to come in the mail. The hard drive was used for gaming and has windows 7.

Hey there, Charles_55.

Well you can't test it without connecting it to a computer either externally or internally. If you have an available computer, which you can use, go ahead and connect it. After that download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool and run the tests on the drive, to see if anything unusual pops-up.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever.

Then don't put it into the case. Do what seasoned builders do, pop the new Mobo over the cardboard box it comes with, do the same thing with the HD, right next to it, do the necessary hookups. You can boot with the WD DOS diagnostic. Get comfortable booting with a screwdriver shorting the ON pins. :)
