You can run scandisk on an ssd just like on a normal drive, while errors are supposed to be extremely rare I have found errors on my drive during surface scan.
To test speeds you can use AS SSD and compare it to this:

AS SSD is also useful to see if your drive is configured using AHCI: Good or IDE: Bad.
Please make sure you use AHCI. Other than that, you can set defrag never to run on the SSD as it is unnecessary on an SSD. Besides the AHCI and making sure that you are using the fastest port on your motherboard e.g. SATA3 vs SATA2.
