testing a SSD?

got a SSD for a build im doing here this week for my dad. I had maybe a dumb question... how do i test it to make sure it works? With a regular HD i would just run a scan with some program like HDtune or something, but im pretty sure that doesn't work with a SSD. How do i test it for errors or problems?

You can run scandisk on an ssd just like on a normal drive, while errors are supposed to be extremely rare I have found errors on my drive during surface scan.

AS SSD is also useful to see if your drive is configured using AHCI: Good or IDE: Bad.
Please make sure you use AHCI. Other than that, you can set defrag never to run on the SSD as it is unnecessary on an SSD. Besides the AHCI and making sure that you are using the fastest port on your motherboard e.g. SATA3 vs SATA2.

I dont use scandisk. I think it tries to fix errors instead of just reporting them and i dont want to use that. I just usually use HDtune and i dont think that will scan a SSD will it? WHat program can i use to check my SSD for errors.

Hmm i got this HD SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW. I have no idea if its AHCI or IDE, or what those mean.. IDE to me just reminds me of the old big old ribbon cables hd's used to use back in the day. . How do i check what im using?
