Hello

I have a brand new MSI Optix-MAG274QRF-QD which I have bought for my new 12th Gen build.
Catch is – I’m still going to have to wait a week or so more for the Cooler to get here before I can use it.

In the meantime – I feel under pressure to open it up and test it for any problems now just in case I need to swap it during the DOA period. If I wait it’ll be too long.

I only have my dad’s old PC that I can use with a 7970 OC on Win 8.1 64 bit.

I assume there are no problems using it on an old system like this?

I do notice though that there is only a win 10 64 bit driver listed on their site?
Should I use that or not use anything?
https://www.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-MAG274QRF-QD/support#down-driver

BTW – when I get my new 12th gen going – should I just use the win 10 driver? Isn’t it odd they don’t have a Win 11 one?

I really want to test for bad pixels, backlight bleed, blacks etc etc

Can you recommend some good free and or paid software or methods to test all those kinds of things?

Also – I haven’t really gamed for like 5-10 years and I’ve never had a proper gaming monitor like this (just 60hz office ones)… I bought this one for gaming at high refresh rates.

So if there are any other problems I should test for or ways of testing that I may not know about – please fill me in – assume I know nothing!

Is there anything I should test or do differently with this when I start using it on my 12th gen with my 3070 Ti OC?

Thank you for your help

You don't need drivers for monitors anymore, for the most part.
Win 10 & 11 so similar right now with identical driver models that win 10 drivers should work fine. that applies to all of the motherboard drivers too.

You should be able to use it on dads pc but it won't run at 165hz on his GPU
I tried to run a 4k monitor off a GTX 960 once and the GPU couldn't produce a fast enough signal to keep a picture on the screen. That would be only concern I have

You can test refresh rate with - https://www.testufo.com/
Dead pixel test - https://lcdtech.info/en/tests/dead.pixel.htm

You might want to look into monitor color profiles once you get right PC.

Things like color accuracy, black levels, etc. need to be done using something like an X-rite. And these tools aren't cheap, with the lower end going for around $180 on Amazon.

And really, unless you're doing print or multimedia work, it's not really worthwhile worrying about these things.
