Question Textra an Whatsapp together

I have used Textra for many months and like it very much especially because I can send texts to all relatives and friends who are using Smart Phones here in the US.

My relatives in Germany want me to use Whatsapp because it's free via wifi and can be used to send pictures and videos free internationally. I have installed Whatsapp on my Galaxy s7 but I'm unable to add my German contacts even though they are listed correctly in my contact list. I have both the Textra and Whatsapp icons on my phone.

My question: Is Textra and Whatsapp on the same phone incompatible? I would like to use both but sure don't want to give up Textra.

If anybody has any experience with both apps, I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you in advance.

The contacts must be saved with the correct prefix country code.

If the contacts are correctly saved but they don't show up in WhatsApp, it means that they don't yet have a WhatsApp profile.

It's no problem to have multiple messaging apps on the same phone.

Thank you for your reply. In the meantime, I got a connection with my German relatives. Yes, I'm glad to be able to keep Textra also.
I'm still not able to add internatl. contacts to my Whatsapp list. I made sure to have the correct prefix and country code and followed the Google instructions. Somehow, I'm missing something but it seems that a number of people have the same problem. Well, I will figure it out sooner or later. The most important part is that I can now communicate. It's wonderful to be able to send pics and videos.
