TF2 and Direct X 8.1

TF2 seems to think that the hardware level of my graphics card only supports Direct X8.1. I have a Radeon 6870, so...this shouldn't really be a problem.

Oh, and it won't let me do motion blur either. Is it a related issue?

One more thing. My software level does read as Direct X 9.0 in the settings window of TF2.

Make sure the game is fully patched, and all your drivers are up to date

download the latest dx distro and update any missing files.
this should enable you to run the game fully featured.
patching is also a good idea as your card may not be recognised by the stock game.

I checked using Dxdiag and I do actually have DX 10, according to the program, anyway. And I do have the latest drivers for my videocard.

I think hexit meant to upgrade your directx files.

how to make it say directx 11 is you go to options advanced options or some thing like that check devolper consle exit out of options press ~ a consle should pop up type sv_cheats 1 press enter then type mat_dxlevel 110 press enter then go to options then there should be dx level 11.hope worked 😀
