PROBLEM SOLVED SEE END OF POST

So the problem is that in tf2 I start with about 100 fps but if I go into any fighting the fps drops to 25-30 fps which is unplayable for me.

My computer is decent and surely enough for a 7 year old game.

specs:
a10 7800 3.5 turbo to 3.9 ghz
r7 240
8gb ddr3 1600mhz
1tb 7200 rpm sata drive
windows 7 64x

tf2 recommended specs:
3.0 ghz Athlon xp
dx9 capable card
1 gb ram

I've tried lowering the settings but it doesn't help, if anything it makes the fps worse. I've also tried reinstalling and defraging my hard drive.

(Edit: I have since been able to solve the problem, even though in CCC I chose to use just the dedicated graphics(re:Amd dual graphics) the pc was using the weaker on-board graphics chip. So I went into my bios and into pci boot device and picked the r7 240 dedicated chip at the boot device. Now fps has improved significantly and I avarage a playable 45-50 fps during fighting and 200+ fps out of combat.)

What gives?

TF2 may be a 7 year old game however, it has had updates and upgrade to the game engine which means it needs more now. I ran it on release on an x850XTPE maxed out but now that wouldn't cut it.

That said, what settings have you changed? Have you enabled or disabled multicore rendering? Have you overclocked the CPU (Source is notorious for being picky with overclocks)?

A10 7800 is locked, so no overclock, multicore is on by default and haven't messed with it much. I tried putting all the setting to low, no AA, etc. Lower settings seem to cut the fps even more when not in fights. Overall any setting or config can make the idle fps higher, but it all still drops to 25-30 fps in fights.

Try disabling the multicore rendering.

What resolution are you playing at? What version driver are you using?

I have a feeling that that GPU just might not be enough even though it is more powerful than what the game launched with it might have a bottleneck holding it back.

So I turned off multicore rendering and it made the fps worse, avg 40-50 out of combat and 30-15 in.

Then I tried lowering the resolution to 640x480 (normally play at 900p) and it had no affect on the fps, so I turned of all the graphics and it made the fps drop again.

Basically, graphics aren't really a factor in performance and the lower they are the worse it gets.
