Thanks for your advice on this build

Hello,

I'm planning on buying myself a new pc and would like to know what you think about it.
As you can see I put 2 different motherboards, I first wanted to buy me the P6T Deluxe v2 but I then was told that if I would want to overclock I better take the Rampage II Extreme. I also haven't put a heatsink for the CPU in this because I just can't make up my mind for one so I'm open to suggestions
I'm planning to go and buy it next weekend if all parts are in that is.

What resolution is your monitor running at?

oops forgot to put that, the resolution of my monitor runs at 1680x1050

Get a 4890 or a GTX 275 instead of the GTX 285, its overkill for that resolution.

You can step the PSU down to a Corsair 650tx if you will just use one GPU, if you will add another then you can still step down to a 750tx and be fine

Corsair ram is overpriced. Look at this:

The V2 is plenty, the Rampage is a waste of money IMO.

You will need a CPU cooler if you want to overclock, so look at something like this:

Samsung drives would be my second choice to WD. The WD1001FALS Drives will be faster.

^ nope, the samsung F1 1TB 32MB's are faster than the WDC black 1TB's.

Are you sure about that? I thought I saw a review of them a hair slower than the Blacks.

Looking at the THG charts, though, I seem to be wrong.

The reason I chose the GTX 285 is because so I can buy a second one in a few years to keep my machine upgraded at a lower cost. At the moment it would indeed be a overkill but you never know if I buy myself another screen that can do higher resolutions when the prices drop a bit.
The PSU might be a good thing to go to the 750tx if it can handle 2 GTX 285.
So even with the v2 it would be easy to overclock then?
I'm gonna have a look at the cooler and see if I can buy it here in Belgium.

1) I doubt you'll be able to find a GTX 285 in a few years, excluding ebay.

2) the V2 overclocks very well, just not as well as the rampage.

1) Yeah and DX11/12 or something will be out then too, making your GTX 285's practically obsolete

2) The Rampage might be able to squeeze 50-100mhz more out of a chip, but its not even close to worth the price increase IMHO. Its only relevant if you are pushing your chip to the max, and if you want it to last 3+ years I wouldn't advise going over 3.8ghz or so with a first rate air cooler. 3.8ghz is easy on the V2.

you guys make a good point, what if I also connect my HD tv to it with a DVI-HDMI cable on a resolution of 1920x1080, would I still have enough with a GTX 275?

Yes. You might have to turn down the AA in Crysis a bit, but anything else will be smooth as silk at full settings.

already said before by thekid but the rampage is pretty much a waste for the tasks that you prioritized.

i got one myself from a friend for cheap and it really hasn't done much beyond the v2

thanks for the info TheMan1214 I'm glad to hear that from someone using it, at first I wasn't going to buy it but got talked into it by a friend and thought that the price difference wasn't worth it now thanks to you guys I know I was right
